We recently had an ice maker flood on our fridge. We're so scared of another flood that we cut the line. Then we found ourselves with no ice supply. We looked at portable ice makers. They are great but the cheapest we found was $89 and it doesn't hold ice. In fact, none of them do. As soon as the ice falls into the container, it begins to melt. So if you plan to spend the day watching the ice freeze, brace yourself. We fill the ice tray in the fridge with cubes from these trays and they fit perfectly. Also, the ice maker pulls those crystal clear cubes (we use bottled drinking water) out of the fridge door in the exact amount - much better than the ice maker, and they're the right size too. I like that the bowls can be folded up. We didn't wait for the cubes to thaw before releasing them and they came out right away. One of the best buys of the year for us.
