I bought the Xodus after reading all the great reviews from experts that it was one of the best running shoes for technical distance running. The shoes have it all. Good cushioning, stone plate and great fit. Here's the downside... They're heavy and bulky. They have a high stack height and fairly stiff shoe without many lacing options to keep them in place. Conclusion: These are great hiking shoes. It's probably a step down from hiking boots, but it's still a shoe. They can definitely handle technical terrain and they will definitely protect your feet! However, they are too big and bulky to walk. I think when you run in these boots you put a lot of pressure on your knees and back (similar to trying to run in boots). I would have a really hard time believing you could run long distances and ultramarathons with it (despite expert opinion). Highly recommend for hiking/technical hikes. For speed and trail running check out the Mad River TR (great shoe) or the Peregrine for some more technical terrain. Hope that helps.
