Has a design flaw and eventually fails. Works fine until then

I've tried several different Kindle lightbulbs and have had these for almost a year. It still works fine. For example: great shape, looks good and is not buggy. Well fixed, the light can be adjusted in position and brightness. Fits my case. The darkest setting is all I've ever used, and that's fine. I wish it was even darker, but that's okay. It doesn't dim when the battery dies, it just turns off at some point. Love/Hate: Requires standard AAA batteries. It is convenient because they are easy to change and do not have to wait for charging. Battery life is "good", probably 24 hours or so, just guessing. Not good because you can't charge and you're wasteful. Easy to solve with nimh aaa batteries but wish I could just use a USB cable to charge directly. I have several other brands of flashlights that are rechargeable but they have different pros and cons. Dislikes: No timer. I haven't found a Kindle Light with this feature and would really like to find one. I love to read in bed, which means I fall asleep with it. A simple 30 minute timer with a 10 second warning flash so you can restart the timer by pressing the power button again would be ideal. I wouldn't mind at all pushing the button every 30 minutes and that would save hours of wasted light. Overall: good light. This is probably my favorite that I've tried. It looks and works well and I honestly think I've had a hard time with it (literally slept on it smashing it) and it needs a great good build quality. If it had a basic timer I would give it 6 stars. In the end, having never found the perfect second light, I've now switched to a backlit Kindle Paperwhite. I like the paper white at low brightness, now I don't need the light and it goes to sleep on its own, the battery lasts a long time too. EDIT - I take my opinion on the build quality. What I missed on the switch is basically a faulty setting and contact. After tearing it apart I found that the switch was actually fine but didn't work when assembled. I bought a second one and a few hours later I had the same problem. I think this is a design flaw, too bad it's otherwise a good product.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Doesn't work well
