Almost real Italian leather turned into suede

I almost turned my real Italian leather sofa into suede. The only reason it didn't happen is because I stopped using it. The conditioner didn't spread well and did nothing to fix the damage done by the cleaner. Stick to Howard's woodwork which is usually great. Your skin recipes seem to be poorly calibrated.
