The faucet is poor - review updated

The quality of the water filter is good, as is the cartridge holder, but the faucet itself is quite poor. My wife and I use it quite often but take good care of our plumbing. When you live in an old house, you quickly learn how to take care of the furniture. For several months the spout has become very loose - the bottom remains airtight. I tried tightening the pipe but not very successfully. I would not buy this product again. After installing many lights and filters I will most likely just build my own kit. Filters supplied from the factory have a very low flow rate - I replaced them with a 0.5 micron filter. Not only is the flow higher, but the taste of the water has improved (maybe noticed? not sure). We have algal blooms in our lines several times a year - during an algal bloom we have never noticed a difference in taste or quality between different filters. For those who complain about the taste of water, buy another filter. Before purchasing a filter, you must identify the specific contaminant or mineral problem in your water. If you don't know which one to choose, I recommend getting activated carbon for the secondary filter and a fine sediment filter for the first stage. It's time to replace the faucet. It's very loose and I'm concerned about leaks. The filter is also hooked up to a 60# per day ice maker which is used heavily by our construction crew (we empty the 15# hopper almost every day to fill water bottles/coolers) - the faucet is also used to fill water bottles and a few used 5 gallon coolers for water. My original review and comments on the results remain unchanged. I would build my own kit with a better faucet and larger diameter hose fittings to get maximum flow. We can set/measure the flow manually and don't need government regulations to reduce the water flow (making refilling the bottle longer than necessary).

Pros
  • Water filtration and softener
Cons
  • unreliable
