Very good infusion! the best of drinks

i love coffee, i like to drink it every morning, but i'm not a "fan". I just like what I like - dark, but not too dark. I have a cheap drip coffee maker (Hamilton Beach Flex Brew) and I just want a good cup without spending a lot of money. I've tried almost every grocery brand and for the first time in years my old coffee grinder broke, I think it was bought in the 90's. Another reviewer recommended 55 grams of coffee per liter of water. For my 14-ounce mug, that means 23.6 grams. I followed this formula to weigh, grind, and add the beans. Great cup of coffee! Strong and dark, but at the same time soft - not bitter at all. I drink black coffee, but in the café, dark roasts are usually too bitter or ashy for me - that wasn't the case. The next day I tried cutting down to 21 grams just to see if I could shave a pinch. nope! It was acceptable but I had to add some raw cacao powder to enjoy it. The formula of 55 grams per liter is PERFECT. My favorite "cheaper" grocery brand is Wide Awake. By my calculations, it's about the same price per cup, and I like it better that way. The extra time spent weighing, grinding and bottling is well worth it. Note that as others have pointed out, the packaging didn't have a roast date, it had an "Use By" date. My date is April 2021, I bought it in June 2020. The beans are not greasy and smell great. When I crush them very little grist sticks to the walls of the coffee grinder. It will take me about 5 weeks to use all the beans so hopefully by the end of July they will still be fresh if I cover them tightly.

Pros
  • great for me
Cons
  • no instructions
