I used this part on my wife's 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier with 4 speed automatic transmission. This is a perfect factory replacement, but I did notice that the heat shield was significantly thinner than the original. If possible, route it away from the exhaust pipe. Follow THESE instructions if you have a 2003-05 Cavalier with a 2.2 Ecotec engine. They differ from previous models in that there is plenty of space behind the 2.2 so the cable can be accessed without having to jack up the vehicle.1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.2. Remove the center console. You can also delete any location to gain more access, but this is optional.2a. Remove the shift knob by pulling the clip from the front and lifting straight up. 2 B. Remove the power window control panel with a flathead screwdriver and disconnect the electrical connector.2c. There are 2 screws in the console, 1 under the cover in the front card compartment and 1 more under the window panel. 2d. Make sure the parking brake is set as high as it will go, then lift the console to remove. Be sure to unplug the 12 volt outlet on the passenger side, if equipped.3. Remove the panels under the dashboard in front of the console. There are 2 screws on each side and you can either use a torx screwdriver or the sockets on it.4. Using a knife or scissors, carefully continue to cut the rug to the center of the front. If you don't want to cut the carpet you'll have to pull it back until you have good access to the shifter cable, but that's a lot more work and the cut will still be obscured by the console. 5. Remove the S-shaped air intake pipe. This allows better access to the end of the cable at the top of the gearbox.6. Remove the metal U-clamps on both ends of the cable holding it in the bracket and slide the plastic clamps together to slide the cable back through the bracket.7. Slide the end of the cable out of the gear box and the end out of the gear box.8. Raise the floor ducts just enough to allow the cable to pass underneath, then use a screwdriver to pry the large rubber grommet off the firewall and insert into the vehicle. Feed the rest of the cable through and remove it from the vehicle.9. The installation is reversed. Be sure to replace the metal brackets. Also make sure the lever on top of the transmission is turned fully counterclockwise (transmission is in Park mode) while the gear selector is in P. When you are sure it is in the correct position, push the black plastic clip in until you lock the cable adjustment. Another point to note is that there is a light under the shifter that illuminates the gear selection when the headlights are on. . If you notice that they don't light up, that bulb has probably burned out and now it's time to replace it. This is a size 194 and is under a plastic cover with all the letters and numbers on it.
