Review on πŸ’Ύ 500GB New Sata 2.5" Hard Drive - Upgrade your Apple MacBook & MacBook Pro Storage! by Reggie Hobbs

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works with a 2007 MacBook, but watch out for hardware and OS installation issues.

You will find that the manufacturer of the hard disk (HD) you will receive is different and the speed is 5400 rpm. I'm only giving 4 stars because of the issues with installing the HD and OS: 1. Installing the hardware is relatively easy with the right tools, but be aware that this HD is thinner than the OEM HD that comes with was delivered to the MacBook. This doesn't affect whether the HD drive will install or work on a MacBook, but it can appear wrong, so don't be discouraged. Installing OS X on a hard drive is not possible without OS X 10.5 or later (ie "Tiger" or earlier does not recognize the hard drive during installation and does not allow reformatting and description below). No matter what OS X you are using, after installing the hard drive, you need to go into "Disk Utility" and reformat/partition the hard drive by wiping it. I ended up having to buy Lion (10.7) OS X and install it after first formatting/partitioning the HD by erasing it in Disk Utility before OS X could find the HD. After the hard drive has been reformatted and recognized by OS X, the installation will continue normally. I spent hours researching and speaking to an Apple tech to figure this out and I'm just guessing that this erasure tactic would have worked on Leopard. All this only takes a few minutes but takes hours/days to get HD. and works without this knowledge in your MacBook. Hope this helps someone and good luck!
