Although I have already rated this item, Revain seems to have found it necessary to provide an additional rating. So here it is: it works. The advertised size is actually the "large" size of an airline approved cat carrier. However, as this is a padded carrier IT CAN be reduced to a smaller size depending on the physical size of the cat being carried. important as different airlines have different "underseat" sizes. We flew in the Southwest where the maximum allowable height is 8.5 inches. Even though this carrier is 11 inches tall, a slight push down and voila - it fits! (Don't worry - no kittens were harmed in this test.) Seriously, I would buy this item again if the need arose.
