Make sure you know if you need Clockwise (CW) or Counter Clockwise (CCW)

Used this to replace the motor on my electric fireplace. Other reviews say their fire moves in the wrong direction half the time, so they cycle the device on and off until it moves in the right direction. All these people ordered the wrong engine. If you're lucky, the motor you're replacing will say CW or CCW like mine (I had CCW). If it isn't, take out the old motor and look at it with the rod pointing towards you. Spin the bar and see which way it spins. It should only rotate in one direction. If it spins counter-clockwise you will get a CCW motor, if it rotates clockwise you will get a CW motor. The default selection for this engine is bi-directional: CW/CCW. I believe the motor rotates randomly clockwise or counterclockwise, hence the misfire from other reviewers. So press the CW or CCW button to choose the right one. It was easy to install and I'm not very mechanical. I just didn't want to spend $300 on a new fireplace. The wires are short, but I didn't have to add an extension cord. The strut diameter was larger on the new engine than on the old one. The part that fits on my device's stand was rubber, so it fit, just with a little extra effort and the retaining pin hole. Finally, the new engine is noisier than the old one, but not critical. I don't notice if the chimney fan is running or if the TV is on. There is also a YouTube video showing the guy installing this exact motor. This might be helpful.
