Review on ACDelco GM OEM D1405B Ignition Switch by Kevin Elliott

1983 Camaro with Switches and Relays

This item enters from the bottom. No need to disassemble the dashboard or steering column. Remove the steering column support bracket to gain some extra clearance. Disconnect the brake switch electrical connector and the high beam electrical connector. The ignition switch connector is easier to remove if the fasteners are removed. The switch is located at the top of the rack. The high beam switch is connected to the ignition switch. I used an 8mm ratchet wrench to remove the two bolts. The screws are not the same, see below. After loosening the first two screws and removing the high beam switch, a third Phillips #2 screw is located under the high beam switch. I used a rectangular driver for this. A short screwdriver is sufficient. After reassembly you may want to temporarily attach the high beam switch to the ignition switch before it snaps into place as the front screw in the ignition switch body is self tapping. It's easier to create these threads before going under the dashboard. The high beam drive linkage can be adjusted after the switches are fully adjusted by depressing the switch.
