Review on ๐Ÿ“ก Tram-Browning BR-180-B Dual Band NMO Antenna: Superior Performance and Sleek Black Design at 144MHzโ€“148MHz/430MHzโ€“450MHz by Jerry Estrada

BIG antenna but limited durability and no support!

This antenna is well tuned for both bands and is also adjustable. This works great for my mobile app and I'm generally impressed with the distances I can pick up signals and hit repeaters. My only complaint: low durability and lack of spare parts! In mobile applications, the whip eventually breaks off near the base of the antenna. Especially if you like driving fast or on bumpy roads. I have the fifth antenna in three years. Two failed with the whip just above base. First the set screw on the base came loose and I lost the entire whip assembly. Finally, the coil fell apart in the middle of the antenna. (This is not the part that was supposed to be unscrewed, it fell apart. See photo.) I tried calling Browning/Tram to try and get a new whip but they just don't sell it. You will need to buy a whole new antenna assembly. This short-sighted and wasteful retail mentality just makes me boil. *Important tip: Be sure to tighten all set screws upon receipt! Don't throw that antenna on your car "right now" even if you plan on tuning it "tomorrow or Thursday" because if you forget to finish it you will lose the entire pin assembly of your new one. Antenna base on the way to your first adventure! Congratulations, you now have another useless Browning antenna socket to add to your useless Browning antenna socket collection. I recommend Loctite! Update: Another antenna broke on me (see photo). This time the central coil fell apart. I had to buy another one! Photo: Antenna measurement on my car through 20 feet of RG223. Well tuned for 70cm and 2m.

Pros
