Review on Pair of Jamo S 803 Walnut Speakers by Nick Whitman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Surprisingly good sound, but huge quality problems.

You've probably seen the rave reviews online and thought this is a great speaker set. They sound really great for this price range. But I was unpleasantly surprised, as the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. Very bad. In this case, there is no quality control. The wood base isn't wood I knew, but that fake vinyl sheet bubbles up all over and on both speakers. Looks terrible! Applying a little heat to the iron to re-stick and remove the bubbles can work if you're feeling adventurous. The wood casing also doesn't match the color of the faux wood around the tweeters. I also received their center speaker separately and the fake wooden plastic feet on it didn't match the color of the wood base or tweeters either. Three different wood colors should therefore be the same. It's crazy how they sell this as a set/lot. In addition, small defects and glue residue are visible everywhere. No wonder they sell for almost 1/3 the price. Because they cost $120, not $300. To rate the sound - pretty good for $125. Not much if you pay more than 200-250. You can tell the difference in sound with a good AVR/amp where they really shine. But for 200-300 euros there are better speakers for listening to music. The debut of the ELAC 6.2 is characterized by a noticeably better musical sound and higher processing quality. It's a shame they were so cheap with build quality and materials. It's a truly modern yet minimalist design and worthy $$ features overshadowed by the cheapness and mismatched "wood" colors of all the speakers and the lack of quality control.
