Review on Zoom PCH 6 Protective Case H6 by James Ohlrogge

The look and feel of protection without offering anything!

Great idea. Bad performance. I wanted to love this case but I regret buying it. While this appears to offer protection, just a few minutes of actual use proves otherwise. The top has been enlarged to accommodate one of the two included microphones, but if you're going to be using it for field recording you probably won't need it. The included microphones are too fragile and not ideal for recording in the field. In this configuration, they will not withstand even a minimal stress. The sheer top is great until you get outside. Then the glare from the sun makes the display of the H6 unreadable. Hooray! The sides open to allow access to the XLR Zoom H6 connectors, but case straps prevent a clear connection. This means pushing the elastic bands to one side, stretching them more than necessary and putting too much pressure on the XLR connectors. It's just stupid. Didn't the designers check that? The velcro material is very disappointing. Not only will it NOT support the weight of an H6 in even the gentlest of conditions, the material itself is stretchy and after just a few buckling and unbuckling it looks like it's been around the world nine times. Simply put, this material is a poor choice for H6 suspension. Don't trust him with device support. I had it fail under minimal load and while I managed to save the H6 from falling, I will never subject the device to that fall again. I do not recommend this shop. Zoom should be ashamed to suggest such a thing. This is a good idea with a very bad execution. There are other alternatives, including 5.11's 2banger tactical pouch that securely holds the device.
