So, I'm a videographer for the high school football team. Part of my work is putting the game online. The company/software we use uses this box to record from an HDMI source. In this case, my source is a Sony Handycam (various models) and a high-end Lenovo laptop with USB 3.0 ports. USB 3.0 is required to function properly. I've tried USB 2.0 and it might work, but not by much. The manufacturer says you need USB 3.0. Once you get it to start capturing video, it works great. Pros: The box is lightweight, durable, and powered by USB. The video quality is excellent. I use HDMI but it's nice to know I have options. Good to know: This is a two-part device. box and USB cable. The USB cable you have to run to the store and buy at the last minute. The end that connects to the box, which can be a standard plug, is anything but ordinary. I don't know where to get it other than from the manufacturer. Be sure to keep an eye on this. Annoying: In some cases, about 50% of the time, the box doesn't work at first. I tried different combinations: camera on before PC and box turned on, camera on after PC and box turned on, tried different cameras, different HDMI cables, different USB ports, different laptops. It still doesn't always work. The solution is to remove the USB cable on the box. When you plug the cable back into the box, the capture begins. And yes, it should be in the box, not the laptop. Have tried several times and it should always be the box. It won't stop me from using this box, but it's a nuisance I had to share.
