Review on πŸ”ͺ ProntoPro Hone Manual Knife: Fast, Precise Sharpening for Euro-American and Asian Style Knives - Diamond Abrasive, 3-Stage, Black by Miranda Montoya

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works better than the branded electric sharpener I have.

I also have ChefsChoice #463 for Asian knives and I wasn't very happy with it until I realized I was using it completely wrong. I learned from one of the reviews that these sharpeners require a sawing motion to sharpen the knives, not a one-way motion. I didn't have the user manual so I downloaded the manual in .PDF format. When I used the sharpener properly, it worked surprisingly well. So I decided to order this sharpener, which works for both Asian knives and European-American knives. I have an electric sharpener that has good reviews, but these manual sharpeners seem to work more efficiently and are much more comfortable. When I got this sharpener I tried it on some of the old Chicago steak knives we have. They were so blunt I couldn't cut my finger even if I wanted to. It took 20 hits on the Euro/US slot and 10 on the Polish slot, but these knives were razor sharp and passed the paper test. I then tried this sharpener on one of my most used Shun knives, using an Asian slot and a polishing slot. The knife has been restored to new sharpness. This sharpener seems to sharpen knives much better than my electric one. If you choose this sharpener, keep in mind that you will need to apply 4-5 pounds of pressure to the knife when sharpening. You also need to use the motion of the saw and not the one-way motion used on most sharpeners. When used correctly, this sharpener will sharpen even your dullest knives. UPDATE 4/3/20: I've been using this sharpener for about 2 years and it still sharpens my knives as good today as it did the day I bought it. I know some people prefer to sharpen stones or staffs, but when using these you need to be careful to use them at the correct blade angle. If this is not done, the blade of an expensive knife can easily be damaged. With this knife sharpener, all I have to do is use the correct slot for the type of knife I am sharpening, and then use the honing/polishing slot. When sharpening a knife, I have to be careful not to accidentally cut myself. A few times when I was in a hurry, I'd graze the blade of a sharpened knife lightly on my hand or finger and didn't realize I'd cut myself until I saw blood. I hope this review was helpful to you. I will update this review if my opinion changes.
