Review on Onkyo BD SP809 Blu Ray Disc Player by Evan Haynes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It really was a hit

because everything everyone says about it being slow is true. It's similar to an early dial-up Pentium, but for the internet everything works fine once connected and then connected to a service. If you don't mind waiting. There are also very few apps available. I have Netflix, two Vudus and some other movies you have to pay for. Not sure if anything other than Netflix and Vudu is really worth it with all the US censorship and all. Otherwise it looks great and has worked flawlessly so far. Someday I'll find a Blu-ray disc worth paying the exorbitant prices they charge for things like this that others seem to pay, and then I'll know how to play it. It plays DVDs, hasn't tried music CDs yet, but seems to play them too. I've had it for a few months and haven't had any issues with it and it's THX certified too. I bought a 626 receiver and wanted something similar and here it is. The 626 controls my Panasonic plasma and my TW-HD cable box. It was all very easy to set up, which tells me a lot because I'm one of the laziest and most impatient people on earth who gives up almost immediately before anything significant.

Pros
  • Blu-ray player
Cons
  • The cable is shorter than the other options
