eco-friendly reusable towels; Analysis of the cost equation in retrospect!

Bamboo is slightly more sustainable than paper towels and can be either recycled or composted after use. They're about the same size as regular paper towels, but with a few distinct pluses: 1. Very absorbing and fast. More than anything but premium paper towels2. reusable. Simply hand wash/wash (not machine, this will SIGNIFICANTLY shorten lifespan) and lay out to dry. Personally, I don't see the possibility of getting "80 uses" of this in all but these very light use cases. However, as long as you don't use them as a scrubber, but wash them by hand, a few dozen uses are not excluded.3. Very durable. It is not easy to rip, break or poke a hole in one in two.4. They can be more expensive or cheaper than paper towels depending on how you use them. Obviously, the cost equation is entirely dependent on how many times you reuse each towel. I compared them to a roll of Bounty paper towels, using the average cost of various vendors and Revain's buying methods. Bounty was $0.038/sheet ($3.63/roll of 95 sheets) on top and $0.017/sheet ($2.43/roll of 143 sheets) on bottom. These bamboo towels are priced at $0.49/sheet. If you use 390 rolls, that's 0.038 per sheet; at 850 uses/roll it is 0.017/sheet. Soooo, if you use each sheet 13-28 times, you'll pay for yourself even compared to a regular roll of quality towels. Thirteen uses are definitely not out of the question; 28 is probably at the top level of feasibility.

Pros
  • Reusable: Simply hand wash the towel or throw it in the washing machine, dry it and it's ready to use again!
Cons
  • Some bugs
