Compared to the $17 alternative collar I also purchased from Amazon, this collar is of excellent quality but inferior in one respect. The chain is 1.5 inches shorter than another martingale collar I have purchased. This means there is less play/recoil when pulling. This results in less tightening of the collar when needed, effectively limiting the corrective action of the collar as a whole. Choke chains and martingale collars rely on the "click" you feel when you pull the leash, and this collar fails to produce the same lasting effect as the cheaper, if less aesthetically pleasing, alternative. If the manufacturer could change this feature I would most likely buy again.
