Review on SmartCheck Electric Fence Tester Voltmeter by Michael Barrett

Update: I contacted the company after writing this review. Over the weekend I received a reply suggesting that a replacement be sent. I will update this as the process progresses but this kind of customer service is impressive. Also, a comment in response to another one-star review notes that the readings were everywhere. My knowledge of electricity is limited to turning the power switch on and off on every device, from the lights in my house to the TV remote and this device. This happened to me too, but I attributed it to the nature of the current flowing through the fence. The number finally settles down and is fixed on the number. When I first installed an electric fence I didn't have a battery on my charger and so the charger read a relatively low voltage accurately. When I set up the charger and the battery was charged, the display showed the (expected) higher voltage. I don't know how comparable ungrounded testers display results, but the display on this unit is much better than the less expensive grounded ones. It was a great little product for 6 weeks. Then it became a non-working product. On the plus side. Easy to use. Very easy to read even in bright daylight. Then, just 5-6 weeks after purchase, it stopped working. batteries changed. Vain. Install the battery holder in both directions. Vain. Dead. Not working, exactly one week after the return date. I will try to contact the company through their website.
