The best system for organizing a thread

Back in the 80's and 90's I found this system and I never found anything better. I have 3 Lo-Ran binders each filled with Master Cards containing together all the colors of embroidery floss that DMC produces, in numerical order, cut to the perfect length for sewing (easy to do by dividing the skein back into two Fold in half and fold again until length is about 20 inches, then trim loops top and bottom) and secure in marked hole with half punch. When DMC releases new colors, they always make the numbers bigger than in the past, so I just have to add more master cards. When I'm ready to make a project, I pull 5 or 6 pieces from the master card and place them on top of the project card which only contains the colors I need for this project. It's very easy to see which colors I don't have because the Master Card cell with that number is blank. I don't know if they still sell bindings, but any binding with three rings will do - ideally it should wrap around the thread like LoRan. I hope they will continue to do so for a long time.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Some bugs
