This tool takes some getting used to. I used it on my first red oak hot melt edging job on a cabinet I built. I tried the tool on some edges that are not visible in practice - I recommend you to do the same :-). My first attempts weren't very good, but I got better. I recommend watching the video on the manufacturer's website - while there are no instructions for the tool on the box, the videos on the website are quite informative. The Fastcap website URL is printed on the package – you need to go to the part of the website that talks about this tool. Worth it. The video shows how to use the tool for both wood veneer and plastic edging. Turns out you can take the tool apart and use it on one edge at a time. You simply spread it apart, separating the pneumatic pistons from their cylinders. The pistons act like springs when you have both jaws connected. Using one jaw was a nice feature for me as I had some gap issues and couldn't move the tool when both jaws were in place. Sharp sewing scissors are great for trimming the ends of the braid. The company that makes this tool also makes tape cutters and an edge grinder. I could have considered buying milling cutters but a sponge sander was more than enough. I used a clothes iron I bought at a flea market to attach the hem. Either way the tools work well and I look forward to other carpenters working with them.
