The printer is fine

I love this printer. We bought it in early 2018 and it officially died in early 2021, so that's about average. The options are great and easy to use. I love being able to print anywhere. I would buy another one if it weren't for the ink problem. HP printers are finicky about remanufactured cartridges, so trying to convince a printer to accept it, use it, and not make mistakes can sometimes be an irritating factor. Also, there's this whole annoying thing when HP wants to automatically sell you cartridges. They use the magic of an eye in the sky to track how you use them, making you very comfortable overpaying for a bunch of plastic cartridges tied up in a landfill. We recycle our cartridges and this printer certifies that it is a 'genuine' remanufactured cartridge but is not enthusiastic about using it. New cartridges are very expensive when you run out of ink and even if we bought them new we want to shop at the best price and decide when to buy. We didn't install the software on anything because we didn't want to be constantly reminded that HP is more than happy to monitor our needs and determine what and when we should buy. It works without badger software, you just have to find it on your computer and we've used it with Mac, Android and iPhone. Although I remember correctly, I had to install a patch to make it work on my iPhone. This time we go with Canon, which is functionally almost identical to this device. I've been a big fan of HP for a long time, not because they print better than Canon. Canon actually excelled faster than HP when it came to print quality, but Canon was also known to cut corners when it came to assembly, so durability was a real issue. I think they've improved, but to be honest I wish the printer wasn't another stressor in my life which is why I'm dumping HP for ink issues. I have too many contracts to sign anyway, my printer shouldn't be another long-term commitment, and another thing I need to figure out is how to quit once the trip is over. Maybe I would have felt differently if I hadn't known I had to replace him in three years. May be. Either way, if you don't mind all the involvement, this is a great printer. Call me a user, but I'm in this relationship for my own needs only. I'm not interested in making a long-term commitment to HP.
