I had an EcoWater ERO 300 that lasted 26 years but this last needed repair made me look for an alternative when the part was "no longer available". I was intrigued by the water savings ratio of 1:2 (produces 1 gallon and uses 2 gallons) which is better than the old EcoWater which was 1:3. So it's not a huge saving, but a water saving nonetheless. The installation/owner's manual is well written by a technical writer who can give good and detailed instructions which is unusual in this day and age. Installation was easy (for me) and took about 1 hour after reading the manual. There were no leaks. Taste is as good or better than the old EcoWater, but that's to be expected since Brondell is a 4th grade and EcoWater is a 3rd grade. Brondell filters are available online or at various B&M stores for a reasonable price of $40-$60. or $7 to $10 per month with no water or membrane. Brondell also packs a new filter change indicator battery with the RF-20 filter change kit, and a neat filter change card (showing the date of each filter change cycle, four cycles within 24 months) comes with the RF-40. /membrane replacement. Brondel states that the 1.6 gallon tank should be refilled fairly quickly at 40 minutes, which I think is accurate for my setup. I measured this time. It takes about 15 seconds to fill a 14-16 ounce glass from the tap to a full tank. Slightly slower than the old 3 speed EcoWater, but not by much. Brondell also gave his flow rate specifications in his manual and those specifications proved to be accurate. So no disadvantages from me. I am very happy with mine and have had it for a week now.
