Great for kids who are new to real cell phones

This is an educational children's toy. It's cute and quiet compared to most electronic toys. I don't think it's too quiet, I'd say just the right volume. I mean it's a cell phone, we always put it to our ears to talk to people. It is also a children's toy. They have sensitive little ears. You don't want them to give you a reason not to hear from you later in life. I bought it as a gift for a 2 year old. He was thrilled that it was a real phone, but upon closer inspection he quickly realized it wasn't an iPhone and lost interest. More exciting were the baby food packages in the same gift bag. Maybe he'll enjoy it more if he's less hungry or pretends a little more. The phone has several songs and games about numbers, and you can talk to Scout (Leapfrog's mascot dog). Overall, I think any kid who has never had the chance to touch a real smartphone will be thrilled, but kids who have used a smartphone or tablet to play games probably won't.
