This product is good for cooking meat at a specific temperature, but bad for anything else that requires a food thermometer. You must select the temperature setpoint either via one of the standard buttons or by entering the temperature manually (which takes a long time). Once that temperature is reached, it won't stop beeping. No mute button or switch to mute the sound, no alarm mode. If you want to quickly measure the temperature of something it will beep, if you want to monitor the oil temperature while you are frying something on the stove it will beep (Frying is always a game where you adjust the flame of the burner so that the temperature fluctuates). If you exceed the desired temperature by one degree, a beep will sound until the temperature falls below the set value. This would be a 5 star product if it had a mute switch or no alarm mode, but it is a 0 star product as it is intended for general use in the kitchen other than cooking roast beef in the Oven.
