The first thing I would suggest is to either mark the top of the box with a black dot on a red label or remove a small piece of the corner. Second, put the broken card or the card you want to replace on the right side. Close the box so the "top" you marked is facing up. You can use this trick with other card tricks (forcing a card or looking for an ace, queen, etc.).
