I have had several Olympus digital voice recorders and have been happy with each one. I've always felt I got more for my money with Olympus. The DM-520 is an excellent recorder. It's easy to use and offers plenty of storage space, even without adding a microSD card. This recorder is quite solid and makes a high-quality and durable impression. It has excellent sensitivity, and Olympus Sonority software helps create MP3 files from recordings. I've recorded several seminars with a voice recorder with great results. The speaker is not outstanding, but quite satisfactory for this purpose. I've used it to play recordings for groups of about a dozen people and it worked well. The battery life is really amazing. It comes with rechargeable AA batteries and charges via USB ports, but I've used the Energizer and they seem to last almost forever. I recorded twenty hours on a set of batteries with a third of their capacity remaining. I also played through car speakers for almost twenty hours without draining the batteries. The DM-520 can't do everything an iPod can, but I needed something to play MP3 voice files and it does the job well.
