Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 594-103 Engine Harmonic Balancer: Compatible with Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth Models by Charles Alfian

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Exact replacement but make sure you can fit it

This is a concentric drive pulley/harmonic balancer assembly and it is a very tight interference fit on the crankshaft nose of these engines: the diameter of the crankshaft nose is approximately 3.5 mils or so larger than the orifice diameter of this device. I would NOT recommend using threads in the muzzle to tighten it. You will likely end up stripping or breaking the bolt in the bow (recommended torque for the balancer bolt (steel 10.9, 10mm x 1.5mm, 60mm long) is 40 ft-lbs). Use a proper Harmonic Balancer installer and liberally lubricate all threads and the shaft. The installer must have a 5-3/4" long adapter rod with a minimum of 3/4" M10X1.5 threads on the crankshaft end. To make the job easier, I wrapped an ice pack around my nose and heated the balancer in a sealed, zippered bag in boiling water for 15-20 minutes. Even after this operation, the tool pressed the assembly very firmly onto the grommet. If you go this route, use leather gloves to handle the hot pulley. Stay hot for a while. DO NOT use a heat gun or an oven: you will damage the rubber seal. Total working time with tools and luck and attention is about 40 minutes.
