Yes, it costs more than others.
But when I opened the box I realized I was getting a quality thermometer from a brand I know and trust. I was close to buying one of the other brands for 1/3 or 1/2 the price but I burned out on my last one so I went with OXO. Used it to make four filet mignon steaks this weekend and they turned out great!
