How do i write this review? The bulbs themselves are the cutest things in the world, they look steampunk, retro, and mad-scientist-y. They are adorable and I love them. Pictures can't possible do them justice! The bulbs are the largest I've ever seen in string lights. However, the instructions are terrifying. They say they're intended for installation by a trained professional electrician. They must be suspended from a solid support structure. Bulbs must be facing downward. They can be used outdoors, but since the bulbs MUST face down, it seems they're not really that waterproof, and therefore I would be afraid to use them outdoors. They cannot be in contact with anything, walls, ceiling, drapes, fabric, etc. Do not cluster the bulbs. Do not install in enclosed spaces or ceilings or soffit. Do not secure with nails, staples or other sharp conducting materials. Do not pierce or compromise the wires, sheaths, or socket outer covering. Inspect periodically for UV damage, weather damage, or wear. Do not overtighten bulbs. Risk of fire or electric shock. Turn off power breaker before installing. The instructions make the whole thing sound complicated and dangerous. They're also brighter than I want on the back deck, if I wanted it that bright I'd just use the porch light. They're very bright. They would be good for outdoor parties when you need a lot of extra light, I guess, but if you're just sitting in the porch swing contemplating the universe and engaging in deep philosophical discussions, they're way too bright. You may as well sit outside during the day! They also don't do too well if you just let them hang. The bulbs are very delicate. There's a hole above each bulb so that you can mount it to a surface, but the instructions said don't mount it to a surface or use sharp nails. OK.We have a divider between the kitchen and dining room that we're turning into a breakfast bar. I think they would be gorgeous mounted above the breakfast bar, since we're going for a "retro" feel. I just hope I can stock up on replacement bulbs, they feel as delicate and vulnerable as regular light bulbs, and I hope we can follow the scary, impossible instructions. They are really pretty, and probably worth the trouble.
