Tech support, support materials, website, everything is terrible

This hard drive was purchased based on Revain reviews and online reviews. Some reviews give the impression that this hard drive is Mac-ready. unfortunately this is not the case. Worse, the support is very poor: 1. Each tech support call results in a wait time of at least 30-45 minutes.2. When I finally found someone, he recommended I create an Apple Time Machine backup first. The backup took 20 hours for 1 terabyte of data. According to LaCie Technical Support, the backup should have taken 1-2 hours.3. A tech support call back with an additional 45 minute wait left me on hold for a long time while the tech researched Apple's website (because LaCie's website is useless). After she figured out how to fix the permissions issue, I asked for help installing a RAID manager that repeatedly failed to start. The tech explained that she didn't know how to help with the RAID because she was a "level 1" tech and she had to defer me back to get a level 2 tech. To her credit, when she couldn't reach anyone (because there weren't enough), she made sure one of them called me back. A level 2 technician called, but only a few hours later while I was at work (more on that below). The level 2 tech asked me to call back once I was in front of my iMac and told me what options to select from the phone's menu tree to access the level 2.4 techs directly. After leaving work early to finally sort things out, armed with the right phone tree options, I called back and was back on the line for another 45 minutes. The person who responded was, you guessed it, another level 1 tech. He said he needed to refer me to a level two tech, but as expected, they all went. Now I am waiting for a call back tomorrow and have to stay home from work.5. Customer Service Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CST. Working hours should be extended so that customers who are working do not have to take time to get technical support.6. All the techs said their phones had been ringing all day. LaCie obviously needs to triple its tech staff and train everyone to level 2 to alleviate the very poor customer service (if a tech has to report a problem because they don't know how to help with RAID, your tech support is in big trouble! ).7. If the quick setup guide was detailed and included the right information, customers wouldn't have to call. Unfortunately, LaCie's website is just as bad and almost useless - if both were like most user manuals and websites, maybe tech support wouldn't be inundated with calls? Bottom line, I bought this device for over $600, got it the next day with Prime, but after 3 days it's still not working. It took over 20 hours to complete a backup (presumably using RAID 0 since I couldn't set up RAID 1?). Tech support hours are limited, and if you call, you're guaranteed a 30-45 minute wait (which means a guarantee, because it's happened every time - add LaCie tech support wait time to taxes and death ). The tech support staff are nice people, but most of them are untrained and will have to refer you to someone with level 2 (resulting in another ban - this time overnight). If you buy this expensive drive, be prepared to spend a lot of time setting it up and be prepared to take a vacation. I wanted to get it back and cut my losses, but I've already spent so much time on it that I'll probably finish it and update this review later to include the performance.
