I don't know why it gets good reviews

To be honest I don't understand why people give this NVR good reviews. The user interface is clunky and looks like it's from 1985. It's a bit concerning that they have an input device (mouse) and no remote control or anything really useful. It's not easy to set up like people have said. I'm a software developer and I'm having trouble initializing the cameras. I know everything about different protocols and ports. So it's not like I'm walking into these blind ones. I used an open source software (ZoneMinder) and thought this NVR would be the best alternative. It is not! The camera layouts are not very interactive. You can choose between 1, 4, 9 or 16 cameras per screen. Well I currently have 6 of these and the layout looks silly with the bottom 3 windows blank. Don't even think about connecting a camera that is NOT Amcrest. It doesn't work at all. You see video on the screen, but it is not recorded, no movements are detected, no alerts are sent, nothing. Speaking of alerts, the push notifications this device sends out are lame. It sends a notification saying: NVRChannel NumberVideo MotionYYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss So in my case it sends:NVRChannel #6Video Motion2020-03-02 18:14:22 No image or anything that might be useful. It doesn't even give you the camera name, just the channel number. This is a big disappointment! Aside from the huge frustration of the notification and everything else, there isn't an app that runs on 64-bit macOS. I believe there is a third party app that is still in beta but it is far from what I would expect for the Amcrest product. I really trusted the Amcrest name, but I will not buy Amcrest products again because this NVR is so lame. This name is no longer on my trust list. For the money this thing was worth, I expected better performance than the open source project I was using. Well, at least as good. nope!

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Not everything fits
