Something pungent leaked onto it before shipping

The basket is totally as described, and came wrapped in two plastic bags. Even so, something very pungent smelling had leaked onto the bags before shipping and the smell won't come out. Soap? Aromatic oil? Pesticide? It was sort of oily. I have no idea, but I don't think I'll be able to put bread dough in there, even after washing. It still smells.
