Review on Norpro Porcelain Gravy Sauce Candle by David Herrera

Well heated sauces and no more cold sauces

I don't know why I haven't tried to find one of these things before. At past holiday dinners I've tried different variations to keep the sauce warm for as long as possible. Preheating the gravy boat didn't help much. A small thermograph helped some, but stood out like a sore thumb among the rest of the elegant holiday dishes. The simple design of this off-white porcelain piece is simple enough to blend in easily with the rest of the table setting. In my opinion, a design flaw is that the gravy boat base and warmer mount are oval instead of round. This means that when the sauce is carried around the table, you need to "align" the oval bottom of the sauce bowl with the warming rack to place it securely. A round base would be much easier. Simply place it on the heated base at any angle. It doesn't seem like much, but sometimes it's impractical to put the two pieces together while sitting at a table. While the gravy boat handle doesn't get too warm to the touch, the bottom of the gravy boat does get quite hot. It only became a problem when someone passed the sauce, forgot, and put their other hand under the bottom to fix it. In general, though, it's best not to jump off the table to warm up the sauce. I also use this for heated sauce desserts (chocolate, caramel, hot rum sauce, etc.). It is ideal for a buffet table for large companies. This way, guests can serve their own dessert whenever they want (including coming back for a few seconds!). And I'm not stuck in the kitchen preparing plate after plate of desserts. I trimmed the wick before lighting.
