Review on Dorman 923-005 Driver Side Tail Light Circuit Board: Ideal Replacement for Chevrolet Models by John Hall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good aftermarket solution at a good price

This is the 3rd tail light board I have had to replace on my 2001 Malibu, 1st on each side and again on the driver's side. All 3 boards were made by Dorman. These boards fit well and are an economical replacement for the original. The first two, one of which is still on the car, have served for about 2 years. See below for why I had to replace one of them. The 2001 Malibu is notorious for water getting into the taillights from a water channel on the sides of the trunk. Standing water gets in and corrodes, causing the electrical contacts on the circuit board and your taillights to fail. The best solution to keeping water off your taillights is to put tape on the top of the taillight where this circuit board and the taillight housing connect. Also drill holes in the bottom of the case to allow any water that has entered to escape. Just remember to replace the tape when you change the lightbulb. As this is now my son's car he changed the bulb and never changed the ribbon. Moisture has accumulated inside because water has gotten in again and boom, another board has become dusty.

Pros
  • Great value - part matches OE performance at a lower cost than returning to dealer
Cons
  • Some minor issues
