Good and some bad

Needed to replace the InFocus IN1O4 projector which was originally rated at 2700 lumens. I typically used it to teach the Bible in an adult class using my iPad with a 25 foot VGA cable dangling from it. it's the one that ran to the InFocus projector. Wired connections fail over time and lately my presentations have started flickering (again). I've been experimenting with the Apple TV, but any Wi-Fi issue turns off the Apple TV and I have to wait for it to restart. Not very satisfactory. So up until now I haven't been particularly happy with what I've had to work with. I started looking for a projector that would work wirelessly, hopefully support (Apple) Airplay, and be as bright as the InFocus I was using. It was just enough, but it works anyway. I wanted to stay at around $400 but had to step up to $500. Result: I now have a TOUMEI V5 projector. I experimented with this at home and found it worked well (although I was a little worried about the brightness) and then took it to class over the weekend. The experience I had with him was great. ADVANTAGES: (1) It's slightly light enough for our large class (60-70 people) with six large open windows. (2) It is relatively small and easy to install. I can get it closer to our 4:3 screen than with InFocus. (3) "HappyCastโ€ allows you screen mirroring with Airplay. (AND CONS: It opens with a huge promotional page written in big Chinese characters. It looks very unprofessional.) But it works. I ended up using another solution (below). (4) It runs cool and I no longer have to wait for the lamp to cool down before turning it off. (5) Active shutter 3D glasses included. They actually work, but I doubt I'll find any serious use for 3D. (6) It provides a Wi-Fi hotspot, almost eliminating (but not entirely) the need for a local Wi-Fi network. CONS: (1) The biggest one for me is the outdated Android 4.4.4 system it ships with. It's many years old and many of the current Android apps don't run on the device, probably due to an old version of the Android OS. I haven't tried to update it to Android 7 and I don't think I will because Android system is obviously a customized version of Android system. I'm afraid I'll wall it up if I do. That's the ONLY reason I gave it four stars instead of five. (2) I could never figure out how to use Miracast with my Galaxy Tab A. It's probably my fault, but it seems like there could be an easier way. Regarding Happy Cast: It's embarrassing to show this full screen Chinese promo screen when Happy Cast is launched. Instead I used AirScreen($$) which works very well. However, AirScreen does NOT work with the projector's hotspot, while Happy Cast does. ATTENTION! A week before I bought another version of this projector (also a V5 model) branded NEW1. This machine was flawed in the sense that you couldn't focus it. The seller told me it was their software and asked me to send it to him and when he received it he would send me another one. Instead, I gave it back to Revane. This is a bad attitude towards the seller's customers. It has been rated at 300 ANSI lumens. The TOUMEI V5 version is rated at 450 ANSI Lumens or 3800 "Marketing" Lumens. I have no idea if any of these numbers are correct or not. My test was "Is my classroom bright enough?" and it was. I recommend the TOUMEI version (this one) of the V5 projector. I think that although it was a little more expensive than I would have liked, it served the purpose and I have no major complaints.
