My previous external hard drive was a 500GB Buffalo Technology; It was fast and hassle-free, but my storage needs at 14 months were higher. After researching competing 2TB drives and reading some horror stories about other devices, this one really stood out and the price was right. After almost a month of heavy use, I found it very cool, very quiet, and better built than the Buffalo (and many other drives I've looked at). High-quality metal body, which is also conducive to heat dissipation. There is no point in buying a USB2 drive. I don't have a USB 3 connection in my Dell Dock or laptop (USB2 only); however, data throughput is noticeably higher than with Buffalo's "Turbo Boost" setting (which was quite brisk). I suspect it has to do with the 32MB cache and the higher spin speed of the hard drive. The drive will automatically hibernate after a period of inactivity, eliminating the need to turn it off. Installation was as simple as connecting power and USB; it is already formatted in NTFS. Unlike the Buffalo device, Windows only sees a GForce3 drive. 3 year warranty is better than most competitors. Highly recommended!
