I ordered a medium size which Haynes says is for a 38-40 bust. My chest is exactly 40. When I tried the shirt on it was tight; so tight that I actually had trouble pulling it off. Then I measured the front of the shirt just below the armpits and got 19 inches wide; Multiply two by 38 inches. That explains why chest 40 was so tight. As far as "meatiness" goes, I don't think that's the case. It's not thin, but it's not heavy either. Hanes used to sell a really pumped up t-shirt that I wore for 10 years, but they made the product cheaper a few years ago. a lot of; about $18 each, I decided to return the Hanes shirts and see what the much higher price of the LL Bean shirt would get me. When the shirts arrived I did some comparisons. LL Bean's shirtfront measured 22 inches (compared to Hanes' 19 inches) and weighed 7.6 ounces compared to Haines' 6.5 ounces; this. The LL Bean shirt was thicker than the Hanes, despite being labeled as a stock item. Does it cost 3 times as much? Probably no. Just order a size up, don't expect a heavy shirt, and you'll probably be happier and definitely richer.
