The 3.5 mm tiny jack is no longer used for audio/microphone connections, therefore upgrading to the USB version was a wise choice. The microphone picks up too much background noise to be used for capturing audio or video. It was wise to restrain one's desire to get an even fancier version. has certain advantages: The microphone has good sound quality, no buttons to press, and is fun to use when playing games. Some drawbacks: Despite having a 3.5 mm micro port, the official software was unable to identify or set up the headphones.
