Mainly made of metal and attached to a 1 1/2" ball at both ends. A bit heavy but I like it that way. It won't break. The Handle on the side tightens really well and will hold the fish finder in whatever position you put it in. I prefer the long handle I can turn it right behind the wheel of my boat You can also use a base with a 1 1/ Buy 2" sphere. Base came with no hardware. Bought a second after installing the first one. That's hard work.
