Dirty but worth it!

I am a middle-aged African American female. My aunt told me about this henna powder a few years ago and I've been coloring my gray hair with it ever since. I originally used Bigen which I have been using for years. I stopped because I noticed that I would itch when I got dressed. I was planning on using this henna to cover the grays and then going back and using the indigo henna to darken it as I was always advised to cover the grays with henna this way. When I first used it I didn't let it sit long enough and it was orange. The next time I made it, I boiled it, put it on top and let it sit for 6 hours. The top color is almost black. Then I mixed it up, applied it and slept with it on all night. Dirty but god is it worth it. I folded the edges of the cotton, put on an old-fashioned "curling bag" :-) and then put on a hat. I slept on a towel but after all the prep it didn't seep onto the towel at all. I washed it and styled it and the next day when I got to work and so many co-workers said "how did you get that color in your hair it's so beautiful" I decided not even to put indigo powder on it, to darken it because I got so many compliments on the color. If it stays that long the gray turns into a reddish honey blonde that is absolutely beautiful! When I cook it, I just look at it. I use about a 4:1 ratio of water to apple cider vinegar and olive oil. The olive oil gives it a smoother consistency for application. sometimes I add other essential oils, but always olive oil and some of it.
