Fixed 1997 Grand Cherokee Downpipe to Catalytic Converter Leak

I used this 1" wide band style exhaust clamp on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 to fix a leaking connection at my downpipe to catalytic converter. When I cut off the old welded-on catalytic converter it also took about an inch of the downpipe off which forced me to slide the new converter farther forward than the old one had been. This made the converter kind of close to the first bend on the downpipe and regular exhaust D clamps weren't working. I also tried to use an expensive sleeve clamp that goes over a whole 2.5ID/2.5OD connection but it was too close to the downpipe bend to work. This cheap little band clamp worked where all others failed I still have a D clamp past it for extra security (I usually use 2 of the D clamps per connection), but this clamp is right on the edge of the converter pipe where the downpipe slides inside and there is no more leaks after a few weeks of use. I'll probably only use clamps like these in the future.

Pros
  • Fit GMC yukon denali 2001
Cons
  • Several users have noted that the clamp is challenging to install, particularly if you lack experience in installing muffler clamps. This may lead to a lack of a tight seal if not installed correctly, which could result in your vehicle emitting excessive noise
