I've been waiting for affordable digital cameras to be good enough to give me better images than my scanned 35mm negatives. Obviously I've waited long enough because this camera is more than up to the mark. There's a learning curve if this is your first digital camera - I recommend reading the manual - but the full range of modes doesn't limit what I wanted to do. The macro focus distance is close enough for typical floral shots - roses, lilies - and the camera suits my slow and cautious shooting style very well. I find it easy to focus on the monitor, even with my older-than-average eyes. I can even use my reading glasses if I have them too. The tele is long enough to be useful; Shots fired from the plane's windows proved successful. The f1.8 lens is great for indoor photography. If you're tired of dealing with film handling, dusting, scratching, storing negatives and proofs, it's time to go digital! If you want to see your pictures as soon as you take them, go digital! On my iMac, all I have to do is plug it in, turn it on, and it looks like a disk drive. It takes about two minutes to copy 35 images. Get a rechargeable battery, have AA for backup. With a 128MB card I get 55 shots at max resolution in SHQ-JPEG mode and so far no file has exceeded 2.1MB in size. Wow. All that's missing is a great photo holiday!
