Great shots, very flexible in all light settings

This camera is great. There are many options, from the beginner photographer to the low-level photographer. Images are sharp, well focused and the camera responds well to a wide range of lighting conditions. Whether you're shooting in a dimly lit theater without a flash, at night or at dusk, the images come out very well. I would definitely buy this camera again. A small nit or two, 1) carry an extra set of batteries if you're taking multiple shots at once. There's just a brief indication that…

The best digital camera ever (up to release 4040)!

This camera is evil. The only way to get something better is to buy a professional camera! It's fine for me - full manual, full auto, or something in between. In airplanes you have to operate the F-Stop manually. No problem - just switch to a/s/m mode on the dial and press up/down to change aperture and left/right to change aiming light level and the shutter speed will be adjusted automatically . And the lens collects light like no other. Exposure 1/40-1/80 in the night stadium at ISO100 and…

Great camera for the average photographer!

I love this camera! Started with Olympus C700 with 10x zoom and 2.1 megapixels. Great zoom but very unstable - lots of blurry photos. I returned the camera, and bought this S-3040. Sharpness, color and ease of use are EXCEPTIONAL. I quickly realized that the best way to get well-focused and framed images is to use the display's viewfinder instead of the eyepiece's viewfinder. The eyepiece doesn't look "through the lens" like the C700, so your frame will always be slightly off. But through the…

Amazed at the sharpness and resolution

I've been waiting for affordable digital cameras to be good enough to give me better images than my scanned 35mm negatives. Obviously I've waited long enough because this camera is more than up to the mark. There's a learning curve if this is your first digital camera - I recommend reading the manual - but the full range of modes doesn't limit what I wanted to do. The macro focus distance is close enough for typical floral shots - roses, lilies - and the camera suits my slow and cautious…

Great digital camera with lots of extras

My Olympus C-3040 was delivered on August 27th 2001 and I have taken more pictures with it in those 4 months than I have in the last 4 years. with my mirror. It's just a fun camera and I'm sure I haven't even used half of the features! I won't list all the great features as the published reviews have covered everything in detail, but I will share some of my impressions: - Buy a 128MB SmartMedia card, but only an OLYMPUS card stitches panoramas automatically. The included 16MB Olympus card has…
