Review on Capture Every Detail: Olympus C-3040 3MP Digital Camera with Enhanced 3x Optical Zoom by Jacqueline Chavez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great digital camera with lots of extras

My Olympus C-3040 was delivered on August 27th 2001 and I have taken more pictures with it in those 4 months than I have in the last 4 years. with my mirror. It's just a fun camera and I'm sure I haven't even used half of the features! I won't list all the great features as the published reviews have covered everything in detail, but I will share some of my impressions: - Buy a 128MB SmartMedia card, but only an OLYMPUS card stitches panoramas automatically. The included 16MB Olympus card has this feature, but the 128MB Viking card does not. - Buy a charger with 4 batteries plus 4 extra batteries. Keep in mind that most people want to use the display all the time, so the batteries will quickly drain. I only use the display to check my shots, 99% of the time I use the viewfinder to take pictures. As a result, I get more life out of my batteries. - Automatic mode works in almost every situation. The only problem I had was photographing a Christmas tree with lights that seemed out of focus and every frame was blurry. I had to read the manual and when I set it to manual focus the images came out sharp. - While a high-capacity SmartMedia card does NOT increase the length of video clips (maximum 75 seconds), it allows you to store multiple 75-second movies. - I bought a USB card reader that works with both Compact Flash and SmartMedia. It works so well that I've gotten used to photographing almost anything. For example, I bought a power tool that I wanted to tell my friend about, so I just took two quick shots, downloaded them, and emailed them. "A picture is worth a thousand words". Removing the memory card from the camera and inserting it into the card reader is a breeze and doesn't drain the camera's battery. - the supplied remote control makes it easy to take self-portraits; no more rushing to get into position before the red light comes on; and you can take multiple shots with the remote control if you like.
