I haven't used a curling iron for several years. All of my old curling irons had a lever that opened and closed the clamp arm. There is none of that in this patch. This is a heating rod with handles only. This curling iron is beautifully packaged and presented. It also comes with a thermal protection glove hidden under the main packaging. This is really a wonderful device. The line attaches to a swivel which works very well to keep you from getting tangled. There is an on/off button and two temperature setting buttons. Use the up/down buttons to set the desired temperature and this will be displayed on the screen. Then, as the wand heats up, you will see the ascent temperature displayed until it reaches your set temperature. I really like that you can specify a specific temperature. You want to use the lowest possible temperature to minimize damage to your hair, and you can be very precise with this wand. As an added bonus, if you wear synthetic wigs you should be able to set the wand to a specific temperature to style them. I was a little uncomfortable using this wand at first, but got better over time. I used the included heat resistant glove on my left hand to wrap the strands around the wand. I only had to wait a few seconds to add a nice wave to the strand. I worked through my whole head pretty quickly and had a nice body when it was cleaned. I definitely need more practice with this curling iron, although I've managed to burn myself a few times. After turning it off, it felt cool for about 5 minutes so I could remove it. Really good curl!
