I'm glad to have this barre which I use for barre exercises but also as a balance aid for other exercises. It was easy and quick to put together. I do wish it were slightly easier to store this flat up against a wall when not in use. It is portable in the sense that it can be picked up and moved or taken apart and moved. It even comes with a bag to store all the pieces if you need to travel with it. I am not sure I would trust it if I had to put a lot of weight on it regularly but it is great for light weight use and as a balance aid.
