Review on 8 Inch ๐Ÿ’ช Grinder by Performance Tool W50058 by Eddie Duncan

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Although the shipping box was in excellent condition, the box containing the goods was slightly wrinkled.

I'm giving this bench grinder four stars because it required some work. The grinder arrived on time as advertised, although it didn't it shouldn't reflect on the coffee grinder itself and its rating. Although the shipping box was in excellent condition, the product box was slightly damaged. However, this does not affect the suitability of the product. Too many people drop their product rating percentage due to late delivery/arrival or packaging issues. Rate the product based on how it works. Okay, first off, the grinder vibrates heavily, causing the screws holding the glasses to fall out. Goggles are supplied fitted but not installed. Vibrations also generate a lot of noise, which may require the use of hearing protection. I also bought a cast iron stand WEN 4288 on which I installed a coffee grinder. After installing it in my basement, I turned on the coffee grinder and let it run. It was LOUD. My wife upstairs said the nose was very noisy. Second, that goes for glasses too, the aluminum frame that holds the plastic protectors to the coffee grinder is lame. The frame is crimped onto a small bar that is bent and bolted to the inner wheel cover. This needs to be crimped harder than it does at the factory. They came loose during assembly, allowing the clear plastic glasses to fall freely onto the grinding wheels. I expect this to be a minor issue in the future. I'll deal with it if and when it happens. Third, the grinding wheels are not balanced and will oscillate when the machine is first turned on. I'm sure it's causing some vibration. Both grinding wheels have a deflection of just under 1/8 to 1/4 inch. You can actually see this problem by turning off the grinder and watching the wheels slow down and stop. The machine itself does what is advertised. This is a machine powerful enough to do most of the sanding jobs you might need. Having once had a small motor shop I would use this grinder to do what I need to do. It will definitely meet all the sanding needs of a handyman, homeowner or DIY enthusiast. Now the solution to the problem of excessive vibration and noise. By pushing, poking, pushing, and stretching the grinder and its wheel covers, I found that the simple solution to most vibration and noise would be to stretch the wheel covers outward. This eliminated most of the vibration and thus most of the excessive noise. Then I took a ยพ" x ยพ" x 13ยพ" piece of wood and carefully placed it between the tops of the hubcaps (I actually had to gently tap it in with a small ball-point hammer. After that, my wife said she couldn't hear it. ). As for loose screws, I will add a lock to them. Now I am happy with the coffee grinder and I hope it will serve me well for many years. I recommend this machine to everyone. If necessary, I will update my review.
