Good for a retro look - nothing more.

I wanted to change the wheels on my father's office chair. I estimate the chair is about 80 years old. The original wheels (which I still have) are wooden and one had a small chip broken off which seriously affected its roundness. These wheels looked like a good modern replacement for hard rubber wheels. The retro look is great. And hard rubber wheels on stone floor are good too. And replacing the old wheels was quick and easy. Now the problems. First, there is camp. (see first photo, only 2 bearings left). The plating on the bearings is a bit loose and a bit short so the bearings have a very annoying tendency to fall out if overly friendly. Which, in addition to disrupting the turning function of the wheel, also poses a risk to the soil. As a result, at least one nasty curse when it met my bearish heal. After about 1 year the bearings found other places not the wheels that needed to be replaced. And unfortunately I reordered these until I found a more suitable replacement. They also appear to have a failure rate of around 50%. so i'm guessing 2 more good ones from another order for 4 wheels. Which brings me to another issue with these wheels. They don't come out. That was particularly annoying. If you're making a poor quality product that needs to be replaced frequently, it should be easy to replace. But no! If you look at the second picture you will notice that the stock wheel stem has a slightly rounded grip. But no new ones, they have a sharp 90 degree grip that grabs the hub and if you try to pull a wheel with no bearings it will pull the hub too! (Well, if you put a little effort in spinning and wiggling the wheel to remove it, it finds its sweet spot and then pulls out easily). The price is good. But to be honest I would pay twice as much for a wheel that lasted longer (original wheels lasted 80 years).
